Our fantasy football league was formed part way through the 1992/93 season with just five teams. The founding managers of the Nash Arms Jolly Boys Fantasy Football League were Chris Asher, Pete Hall, Tony Jordan (the son of the then landlord of the Nash Arms), Chris Page and your Chairman.
The following season the league grew to eight teams with the addition of Laurie Greenwood, Rob King, ‘Nobby’ Knowles and joint managers Andy Walles and Jon Martin. Chris Hall also joined his dad as joint manager and Tony Jordan dropped out.
By the 1994/95 season the league had grown to ten teams with Allan Clarke and ‘Alfie’ Heathfield joining. Allan, the new landlord of the Nash Arms donated the League Championship shield and a Knockout Cup trophy was purchased. Your Chairman donated the Chairman’s cup and Pete’s dad made the Wooden Spoon trophy.
There were still ten teams the following season but Jon Martin dropped out and Robin Rolfe joined Andy Walles as joint manager. The league remained with ten teams during the 1996/97 season but in 1997/98 it had grown to twelve teams with the addition of Matt Lunn and Jez Page.
In 1998/99 there were still twelve teams but Robin Rolfe dropped out to leave Andy Walles as a solo manager and Stuart Clarke joined his dad as joint manager. The following season the league was up to fourteen teams with Chris Hall branching out on his own and Paul Stack joining.
The 2000/01 season also saw fourteen teams competing with Matt Lunn and Stuart Clarke dropping out. ‘Alfie’ Heathfield and Chris Page teamed up as joint managers with John Kirby and Dick Porter joining. By 2001/02 the league had grown to sixteen teams with ‘Alfie’ Heathfield back out on his own and David Gardner joining, assisted by his son Paul.
The pressures resulting from sixteen teams of eighteen players lead to the formation of two divisions of eight teams for the 2002/03 season, made up of the top eight and bottom eight from the previous season. ‘Alfie’ Heathfield dropped out and Robin Rolfe returned as a solo manager.
The same format and managerial personnel remained for the 2003/04 season and when John Kirby had to drop out, as he was emigrating to New Zealand, Andy Szumski joined for the 2004/05 campaign.
The 2005/06 season had the same managers and format but for the 2006/07 campaign it was decided to limit the squads to fifteen players rather than eighteen and the have just one player from each Premiership club. With Chris Page dropping out James Marsh joined the league.
As the League Championship shield had no more room to add the names of further winners and with the growing cost of engraving, it was decided to dispense with trophies and the engraving of medals for the 2007/08 season. It was decided also to start afresh with a new league name and website, the Jays Hamlet Horny Slobs (an anagram of The Nash Arms Jolly Boys) and with the same format and personnel as the 2006/07 season.
Both the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons also had the same personnel, squads of fifteen players and just one player from each Premiership club. For the 2009/10 season, however, it was decided that we should still retain squads of fifteen players but after the bidding rounds had been completed managers could revert to two players from each Premiership club. This same arrangement applies to the current season and with the same personnel.
